Mission Play Moments Photo Competition - the stories behind the moments

We recently wrapped up our Norte Mission Play Moments photo competition. We launched this in the hope of spreading our MISSIONPLAY message with the world. This wasn't about promoting Norte gear but about promoting the importance of kids, families, all of us, getting outdoors, exploring, breathing in the fresh air and simply taking a few moments to enjoy life amidst the madness. Mission Play moments brought us that and so much more! Read on to see the beautiful winning pictures and hear from some wonderful families about the story behind the moment. Meet Fletch, Amelia and Corbin...

FLETCH

Tell us all about your winning picture?
This picture was taken at a local laneway we just happened to be passing on a wet day. Fletch loves jumping in puddles, like most kids, so I just let him loose on these ones that day. The big thrill he got from something so simple, made my day!
What made you enter Norte's Mission Play Moments photo comp?
I loved seeing all the Norte Mission Play Moments photos pop up on my Instagram feed. They inspired me to enter our photo as I think it captured Fletch just in the moment having fun playing.
What does mission play mean to you?
As a teacher and now a mother, I have experienced how play is so integral to a child and their learning. I adore watching Fletch playing and discovering new things about himself and the world around him. Mission play to me is just taking the time to be free and totally engrossed in the moment.
What's your favourite way to spend the weekend?
Spending time with my family is my ideal weekend. It could be out exploring new places or just sitting at home spending quality time with them. As long as I'm with my family I know we are going to have fun times and make lots of great memories.
What makes a great photograph?
I love a natural candid photo as they are usually the ones that make lasting memories.

AMELIA

Tell us all about your winning picture?
We spend time out in our backyard nearly every day, even if it's only for a short while. On the day I took this photo I was gardening & Amelia had been playing with the dogs, putting pebbles in the water fountain & playing with her new toy camera (taking photos like mummy). We were about to head inside when I thought to myself that it was too cute not to capture her taking photos with her play camera. Of course as soon as i get my camera out she stops it. This image is of her pointing to the Birds in the gum tree.
What made you enter Norte's Mission Play Moments photo comp?
We love spending time playing, exploring & going on adventures outside. We always make an effort to get out into the fresh air. We are lucky enough to live in the beautiful Yarra Valley & there is just so much to do. We like to keep an even balance between active & passive activities & learning for Amelia. I think this is important for all developing little minds & bodies. We #kidsunplugged in all of our posts of our outdoor activities. We were lucky enough to have the team at Norte like one of our posts. I like to check out people that have liked my post as most of the time they have liked it because we have common interests. When I checked out Norte, I liked their concept of mission play. So I started following them & entered photo's of our little girl out & about on adventures. The ladies were inundated with post's from us!
What does mission play mean to you?
There's nothing better than being a part of the happiness that is brought to your child as they play & discover the world. I just love capturing our little girl doing this!
What makes a great photograph?
I think what makes a good photo is to keep it simple and to focus on the subject that really matters. Your child! Keep your kids world fun!

CORBIN

Tell us all about your winning picture?
The winning pic of me was another fun day at Satellite beach with my uncle Jerrett.

What made you enter Norte's Mission Play Moments photo comp?
I entered the mission play moments comp because I wanted to show people how fun it is to get out on the water and surf waves small or big!

When did you learn to surf?
I learned to surf before I could walk, my mom and dad always took me out with them. I really started to surf on my own when I was 5.

What does mission play mean to you?
Mission play to me means to go outside and have fun with what God gave to us, for me it is the ocean and the woods.

What's your favourite thing to do on the weekend (we're guessing it's surfing so maybe your top two)?
My favorite things to do on the weekend are surf comps and free surf with friends I also like to go to the Cocoa Beach skate park and shred the bowl.

What makes a great photograph?
A great photograph is made when it shows happiness and is taken when you don't expect it because then you can't pretend the way you feel!
